Maui’s historic Iao Theatre, built in 1928 and the first theatre in the state, fell in decline through the early eighties when a community effort saved the theatre and lead to a million-dollar restoration and renovation effort. Maui Community Theater, doing business as Maui OnStage, has occupied the Historic Iao Theater since 1984, and has since been instrumental in keeping the theater in operation even during times of desperate disrepair.
Maui OnStage’s plays run Friday and Saturday for three weekends, with five plays produced per season from March through October. Tickets are available online, or by visiting or calling the box office. Additionally, Maui OnStage hosts a variety of orchestra concerts, live musical performances, and more.
