Paul and Vi Loo Theatre

July 20-29

Fri, Sat at7:30pm, Sun at 4:00pm

All the World’s a Stage Theatre Company in residence  at Hawai‘i Pacific University is excited to announce their upcoming production of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl. The production will open on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. Subsequent performances will take place on July 21, 27, and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, July 22 and 29 at 4:00 p.m. All performances will take place at the Paul and Vi Loo Theatre on the Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Hawai‘i Loa Campus in Kāne‘ohe.

The myth is well known: Orpheus, a talented musician, falls in love with the beautiful Eurydice. On their wedding day, Eurydice is bitten on the ankle by a snake and dies. Orpheus pours his grief into his music and the resulting lament moves the stones, the trees and, most importantly, the gods. He is permitted to enter the underworld to retrieve his beloved Eurydice, but on one condition: he cannot turn around to see her until they have both exited the gates of the underworld. As Orpheus approaches the gates, he is suddenly overwhelmed with doubt that Eurydice is truly behind him. He turns around and Eurydice, with a simple but sad “farewell,” is pulled back into the underworld for the rest of eternity.

Tickets are available through the AWS website at www.awstheatre.org. Ticket prices are $20 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors with valid ID.
