SUMMER THEATRE CLASSES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AT UHM

Outreach College and the UH Manoa Department of Theatre and Dance offer some exciting theatre classes for community members in Summer 2018.

LIVE CLASSES

Film/TV Acting (SS1 3-week intensive May 21-June 8 Monday-Friday 10:30am to 1:30pm)

Acting techniques for film and TV production. Students appear in scenes from TV and film scripts. Instructor: Paul T. Mitri (director, Twelfth Night, The Elephant Man, Rent)

THEA 245 Design Principles for Performance (3-week intensive SS1: June 4-22, 1-4pm)  Perfect course for techies or any theatre or dance artist wanting to expand your knowledge of theatre design.  Take a crack at your first design! This class explores the secrets to stunning, functional, and story-driven design for the theatre. Students will tackle projects addressing the basic elements of set, costume, and lighting design. Instructor: Rachel Filbeck (Scenic Designer The Spitfire Grill, Nora)

THEA 476 Puppetry (3-week intensive SS2: July 9-27 1-4pm)  Summer Session 2

This 3 week class will include an overview of all puppet forms and 5-6 specific styles of puppetry to be studied and created.  You will build puppets, create sketches, and perform them in a final show. Guest lecturer Pam Arciero performs for film, television, and theater, notably as a puppeteer with Sesame Street (Grundgetta Grouch, Oscar's girlfriend, and assorted characters) and for the Muppets for over 30 years.   

THEA 221: Introduction to Acting (special dates SS1: June 4-29, 9-11am)  

Concentration on voice, relaxation, body awareness, and freedom from self-consciousness through theatre games, improvisations, monologues, and exercises. Emphasis on ensemble work. Instructor: Donovan Oakleaf (Actor, Antigone, Twelfth Night, Nora)

Additional live Dance classes in Beginning Ballet and Creative Dance (hybrid online).
