The Leeward Theatre presents Haʻina ka puana

Leeward Community College’s Hawaiian ensemble musicians rely on pure vibration in the sound installation Haʻina ka puana. Combinations of frequency and text become the primary catalyst in evoking memories of Queen Liliʻuokalani, through her songs and memoirs. Performers move about the hall generating sound from multiple directions, as frequencies drift through time and space.

In order to experience the intended effect, the performers kindly request that audience members wear Mindfold masks (provided) for the duration of this installation. Haʻina ka puana runs approximately 70 minutes and is performed without intermission.

Along with their guest artist Starr Kalahiki, Leeward CC’s Hawaiian ensemble invites the listener to a storytelling experience that is both intense and dreamlike, and may possibly lead you to a deeper appreciation of Queen Liliʻuokalani.

Performances will take place on Friday, April 27 & Saturday, April 28 at 8 pm. Every showing will take place  Ka ʻImi ʻIke Education Building, ED 201, Leeward Community College, 96-045 Ala Ike, Pearl City, HI 96782.

*Discount includes, seniors, military, UH & DOE Students, Faculty and Staff.
