HONOLULU, Hawai‘i, March 16, 2018 — The public is invited to performances of “Seussical, Jr.” on Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., in Dillingham Hall. Presented by Punahou middle school students, this fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty will delight audiences of all ages with its message of perseverance and loyalty.

“Seussical, Jr.” is based on the books of Dr. Seuss, mainly “Horton Hatches the Egg,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “The One Feather Tail of Gertrude McFuzz.” It tells the story of Horton, an elephant who must protect the tiny Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and also guard an abandoned egg. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the powers of friendship, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

The cast is comprised of 36 students in grades 6 – 8. “Through this creative journey each cast member has taken great strides in learning more about themselves,” said director Vanessa Manuel-Mazzullo, praising the cast and crew alike. “As we prepare our students and future leaders for the 21st century, as Dr. Seuss said, ‘It is better to know how to learn than to know.’”

The Punahou Box Office is now online. Patrons can purchase tickets and reserve seats at www.punahou.edu/boxoffice starting April 4 at 7 a.m. HST.
