directed by Peggy Anne Siegmund
2pm Saturday, November 17th
& 6pm Sunday, November 18th, 2018
Showruns February 8 - March 3, 2019
The action of the play takes place in New York City's criminal justice system, largely in the yard of a special twenty-three hourlockdown wing of protective custody on Riker's Island. (Director's note: this is a really awful place.)
The director's audition invitation is color- blind and age inclusive. Regarding the 2 characters whose age and ethnicity are described by the playwright, for this production we are looking for actors who need not match but resemble what the playwright intended.
Angel Cruz - as described in the script he is "30 years old, lives with his mom in West Harlem, one felony prior at age 16, works as a bike messenger", he's now in jail for murder because the man he shot at and wounded, has died. In the script, Angel says he is Puerto Rican.
Lucius Jenkins - older, a convicted serial killer who says he found God at age 42, describes himself as "a suicidal, multiple homicidal drug addict starin' down at Death Row". According to comments in the script Lucius is African American.
Charlie D'Amico - corrections officer/prison guard; kind, caring, easily manipulated, too trusting.
Valdez - corrections officer/prison guard; angry, cruel, sadistic and violent.
Mary Jane Hanrahan - attorney, tired and jaded public defender, until she meets Angel.
