What a Deduction!
If you HATE to laugh uncontrollably, if you HATE smiling from ear to ear, if you HATE hearing others enjoying themselves, and if you HATE having a wonderful time…then don’t go see BASKERVILLE, A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY! I repeat…don’t go see it! Because you will leave Manoa Valley Theatre laughing uncontrollably, smiling from ear to ear, hearing others enjoying themselves, and you will have a wonderful time.
Manoa Valley Theatre opens tonight (1/11/18) with this all female cast doing 36 characters, with changes in the blink of an eye both on stage and off stage. The cast are: Brooke Channon Dee (Sherlock Holmes), Malia Wessel (Dr. Watson), Actress One (Shannon Winpenny doing 13 roles), Actress Two (Courtney Booth doing 7 roles) and Actress Three (Therese Olival doing 14 roles). Along with these wonderfully actors are an onstage crew (Sheena Dornan, Valerie Ho, Karolyn Miller and Abigail Oelke) who move the sets, dress the actors onstage and become a part of the landscape of the play.
A very innovative and elaborate set with many moving parts, including a revolving floor, makes the play move at speeds that keep the action continuously flowing like the costume changes.
Bravo to Rob Duval (Director), James Corry (Set Design and Costume Design), Janine Myers (Lighting Design), Jennifer Hart (Costume Supervisor), Jason Taglianetti (Sound Design), DeAnne Kennedy (Scenic Artist), Sara Ward (Props Design), Lisa Ponce de Leon (Hair & Makeup Design), Braddoc DeCaires (Production Manager), Montana Rizzuto (Technical Direction), Tyler Haugen (Assistant Director) and Denise-Aiko Chinen (Assistant to the Director).
Call Manoa Valley Theatre for tickets at 988-6131 or go online: manoavalleytheatre.com.
Don’t miss this romp through the marsh, and, beware of the Hound of the Baskerville…it may bite your funny bone!
