APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR 24TH ANNUAL ORIGINAL PLAY FESTIVAL
Aloha Performing Arts Company has announced open auditions for volunteer actor / readers for its twenty-fourth annual Original Play Festival. Eight plays with a total of over 30 characters will be cast by five directors during two audition sessions: Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9, from 2 until 5 p.m. each day. Auditions will take place in Damron Hall, APAC's alternate rehearsal site, adjacent to the Aloha Theatre parking lot in Kainaliu. Auditions will consist of readings from the scripts, which are available for onsite perusal at the APAC office starting July 5. The plays will be presented in staged reading format, with simple technical presentation and actors holding scripts. Memorization is not required, and newcomers are encouraged to audition. Roles are available for teens, adults, and senior citizens.
OPF XXIV will be presented Wednesday through Saturday, August 16-19 at Aloha Theatre. Opening the festival on Wednesday will be "Setting the Moon," a psychological drama directed by Tiffany Kutsunai. Thursday's offering will be a quintuple bill of five short comedies: "Slaughterhouse," "Zombies R Us," "Exceeding the Purchasable Calories," "Garden Variety," and "In the Wrong Cafe." Thursday's directors are Catherine Williams, Robin O'Hara, and Annabelle Treacy. Friday features a family drama, "Mother's Wishes," directed by Ellen Farnsworth. The festival closes on Saturday night with a "show biz" comedy, "Neil Simon's Last Hit," directed by Robin O'Hara.
Each play will rehearse once a week, on the same day of the week at its performance, for a total of five rehearsals. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday rehearsals will be 6-9 p.m. and Saturday's rehearsals will be 4-7 p.m. Rehearsals begin July 12. The entire rehearsal schedule will be posted at auditions.
