1) INTENSIVE SUMMER PUPPETRY WORKSHOP WITH PAM ARCIERO OF THE MUPPETS!
THEA 476: Puppetry
July 10-July 28, Mon-Fri 1pm to 4pm. (A UHM Summer Outreach course) REGISTER BY JUNE 27
In this class you will discover the joy and the art of Puppetry. It will be an overview of the various forms and styles of puppetry, and we will work in 5 of the major forms of puppets. From Muppets to Marionettes, we will be building and creating puppets as well as learning performance techniques. We will design and construct simple puppets and sets using basic skills and materials for both educational and professional uses. Performance techniques will include physical puppet movements, improv, character development, vocal work and script work. You will leave with a broad knowledge of puppetry, and how to apply this art form to the classroom, storytelling, theatrical events and even your own show.
Pam Arciero performs for film, television and theatre, notably as a puppeteer with Sesame Street (Grundgetta Grouch, Oscar's girlfriend ) and Between the Lions (Leona Lion). She is a director for live theater, television and film. Pam has taught puppetry all over the world, from New York to Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia to Denmark and her love and joy of Puppetry is contagious. She is the Artistic Director of the National Puppetry Conference at the O'Neill Theater Center. Pam holds a Master’s Degree in Puppetry from UConn.
2) INTENSIVE SUMMER MIME WORKSHOP WITH TODD FARLEY OF THE MARCEAU MIME SCHOOL!
THEA 433 (Section 311) Movement Workshop: Mime
Special intensive workshop meeting times: Sat/Sun 8/12, 8/13, 8/19, 8/20 from 9:30am-12pm (A Fall 2017 Outreach Extension Course)
Students will learn the basic techniques of European mime with a focus on Marceau and Decroux techniques, including how to perform illusionary mime (walls, walks, robots), create highly stylized characters and tell a story with just the body. Participants will have the opportunity to perform in a mime show.
Todd Farley is an experienced mime artist with a degree from the Marcel Marceau International School of Mime Drama in Paris.
