MVT Guest Directors for 2017-18 Season

(HONOLULU May 5, 2017)  Manoa Valley Theatre is pleased to announce a lineup of outstanding guest directors for its six-play 49th Season.  Four talented returnees plus two new MVT directors make up the team.


Paul Mitri - The Full Monty


Paul’s previous MVT directorial work includes Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, Spring Awakening, Rent, and co-direction of The Elephant Man.  He is on the faculty of the Department of Theatre and Dance at UH, and has served as its chairman.

 

Alex Munro - The Legend of Georgia McBride

 

Alex served as assistant director or as directing intern on MVT’s productions of The Addams Family, Next to Normal and Spring Awakening.  He directed Equus and was co-director of The Elephant Man.  Alex holds an MFA in directing from the University of Hawaii.

 

Rob Duval - Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery

 

Rob has been at the MVT directorial helm for its productions of The 39 Steps, Gutenberg! The Musical!, Hair and Tommy.  He holds both a bachelor and masters degree in theatre from UCLA, and serves as a performing arts teacher at Iolani School.

 

Bree Kale’a Peters - Fun Home

 

Bree has directed MVT’s productions of Sweet Charity, I Hate Hamlet, Song of Singapore, Frost/Nixon, Avenue Q, Peter and the Starcatcher and It Shoulda Been You.  She also directed the special MVT production of Boys on Broadway and was in charge of creative/entertainment for MVT’s annual fundraising gala, Manoa Marquee, for many years.

 

Miles Phillips - Shear Madness

 

This is Miles first MVT directing assignment.  He has recently returned home to Hawaii after acting and directing professionally in theatre for many years in New York and other mainland cities.  He recently directed 1776 at Paliku Theatre.

 

Michael Ng - Lisa Matsumoto's The Princess and the Iso Peanut

 

Michael will be making his MVT directorial debut with this assignment.  He holds a theatre degree from the University of Hawaii and is on the teaching staff at Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center.   He has worked professionally as an actor both in Hawaii and on the mainland, and was a part of the Ohi’a Productions theatre company.
