Kaiser Permanente and Honolulu Theatre for Youth Set the Stage For Keiki to Thrive
HONOLULU , Hawaii — December 4, 2017 — The Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) performed the original production “Ouch!” to preschoolers, parents and teachers at Lanakila Headstart today. The theatrical production shares valuable lessons about emotional and behavioral health and was funded with a $20,000 community benefit grant from Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.
“Ouch!” tells the story of a brother & sister who set out on an adventure to heal others and uses core behavioral health concepts to teach children about empathy. The production will be performed at pre schools and libraries across the state and the program will reach more than 16,000 children with lessons about effective communication for emotional and physical pain. Additionally, the grant will fund interactive workshops and classroom activities to engage students in healthy, hands-on learning in support of total health — caring for the body, mind and spirit.
“Our mission is to use drama to make a positive impact on the lives of Hawaii’s keiki,” said Becky Dunning, managing director, Honolulu Theatre for Youth. “Kaiser Permanente’s generous supportenables us to use the power of live theater to allow children to see the world from the perspective of other people and develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”
