Issue #214 — Play On!
Aloha, everyone, and welcome to Issue 214 of Hitting the Stage!
I'm here to tell you, our dear audience, that HTS has the word on all the shows running right now! In case you missed them, Features Editor Cheyne Nomura and Staff Review Hester Lewellen laud Hawaii Opera Theatre's current operatic smash with Going ‘Mad’ for HOT’s ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ and HOT ‘Desire’ Beautifully Done, respectively. The production has one more show tonight! Go see it and get your admission discounted 50% off when buying single tickets at this link: http://tickets.hawaiiopera.org/single/EventListing.aspx#sthash.8ysbdWlj.dpbs.
Additionally, Hester saw three more productions, and we have her reviews right here. In Buffalo'ed: Standout Performances, Needs to Settle and Smooth, Hester provides a bit of the background on the titular Buffalo Soldiers that not everyone may know going into the production. Kumu Kahua's latest runs through February 25. In "Make 'Em Laugh! Make 'Em Laugh! Make 'Em Laugh!" Hester laments a dated script and commends the actors for playing their hearts out nonetheless. DHT's The Fox on the Fairway runs through February 12. Finally, Hester says it best in GO SEE THIS SHOW! (Yes, I'm shouting!), her review of Kennedy Theatre's Twelfth Night (playing at UH's Campus Center Ballroom), which has its closing three performances this weekend: February 3 at 7:00pm, and February 4 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.
I know you must tire of me saying this, but there's so much theatre happening! Join us in this immersion of the arts, and as always, if you want to submit a review for a show that you've seen, write it down and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org!
See you next week!
