FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Masami Teraoka Partners With Viktoria Naraxsa For Upcoming Events

Masami Teraoka, Hawaii’s Internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, is bringing Viktoria Naraxsa from Russia to Hawaii as part of his upcoming solo art exhibition at the Koa Art Gallery.

Naraxsa’s illustrious experience as a performance artist and choreographer has spanned from Russia and Germany to New York, working with celebrated performance artists including the ever controversial Pussy Riot.

The Pussy Riot is a favorite inspirational muse for Teraoka, whose own controversial works have given him notoriety in the art world.  Through his immersion with Pussy Riot for his latest body of work, he befriended Naraxsa who has agreed to come to Hawaii to conduct an immersive performing arts event in a joint project envisioned with Teraoka. The performance workshop will commence on February 24, 2017, and will culminate in an event on March 17th at the Honolulu Museum of Art School.

Masami Teraoka’s Koa Art Gallery exhibition will feature magnificent gold leafed triptychs with portraiture of Pussy Riot members and Naraxsa in current political and cultural context, running from August 26 to November 11, 2017.

Viktoria Naraxsa is a Moscow based theater director, choreographer and performing artist.  She graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Performing Art in Russia and has an extensive background in theater.  Naraxsa has choreographed Pussy Riot’s performance "Chaika" and worked with Nadya Tolokonnikova in New York last year.

About Viktoria Naraxsa’s performing arts workshop and the final play:
"Together, we will be creating a site-specific, immersive theater production where the audience participates on equal ground with the performers. The first week will be the foundation of our process - we meet each other and work on the strategy of the workshop based on its participants. During the first week of the process all performers should be ready for self-directed research. Throughout the workshop it will be necessary for them to search for information to be referenced in the final play. Our goal is for performers to discover important moments which will help them work towards a more profound experience through the workshop.  We expect total immersion in the process for entire duration of the workshop.  This enables us to create the right atmosphere at the time of the final play which will be based on William Shakespeare’s play "The Tempest". The final play to be performed by selected performers and participating audience."
