Director Wanted for 2017 O’ahu Fringe Festival Production (Stipend)
24 September 2016
Really Spicy Opera seeks an O’ahu-based director to collaborate with for a local production of Game of Thrones: The Musical. This Sesame Street-style children’s musical for adults retells the story of the hit HBO TV series from the perspectives of its female protagonists and antagonists. The show features skewering parodies, searing monologues, vocabulary lessons, inspirational songs, pro-feminist narratives, massive puppet-on-puppet violence, and very likely the highest (puppet) body count of any O’ahu Fringe production ever. The show has been accepted for the 2017 O’ahu Fringe Festival and we are looking for a director to assist with casting and rehearsing a locally cast remount.
Game of Thrones: The Musical premiered at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in August 2016, earning rave reviews and Best of Fringe and Critic’s Picks awards from the Twin Cities Arts Reader. The St. Paul Pioneer Press named it one of the 2016 Minnesota Fringe Festival’s must-see productions, and the show’s narrative and content were praised by The Southwest Journal, The Column, City Pages, and Minnesota Playlist.
Key production dates:
· Fringe tech rehearsal: Jan. 9, 10, or 11, 2017
· Production Days: Jan. 12-15, 2017 (exact dates TBD)
Stipend offered and negotiable depending on experience. To apply, send a resume and cover letter to: email@example.com with the subject Director – O’ahu Fringe.
