Aloha, Friends and Patrons of The Actors' Group:
We're still HERE! For those of you who may not have heard, last Sunday night--despite some pretty herculean efforts on the part of TAG Board members Dennis Proulx, Rebecca McCarthy, and myself (somehow, we thought we were Moses)--flood waters generated by Tropical Storm Darby inundated Dole Cannery Square and TAG's Brad Powell Theater.
On Monday, others on our Board returned with buckets, towels, mops, water extractors, disinfectants--and sad but determined hearts. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the most incredible band of volunteers you can imagine was back here with us--mopping, hauling, spraying, vacuuming--working tirelessly together. Because of them, TAG is back in business, and the final weekend of shows of Mothers and Sons is up and running!
A huge Mahalo to volunteers Kahana Ho, Han Chong Yi, Karen Hironaga, Thomas Smith, Harold Seu, Steve Prieto, Rich Kennedy, Carlynn Wolfe, Katie Shirley, Allan Okubo, Stephanie Conching, Marty Wong, and Wayne Pa'akaula.
Another huge Mahalo for generous donations since the flood from Carol Mazzanti, Ray & Cheryl Soon, Richard Goodman, Alan Picard (In memory of Ann McLaren), Duke Wagner, Harvey Minsky, Cathey McCoun, Norman Scofield, Judy & Dennis Lind, and Sara Ward. At SSFM International: Cheryl Soon, Lee Takushi, Joanne Delvillano, Darin Mar, Hank Miyamoto, Alison Inafuku and anonymous donors; Terry Joiner, and Janice Kamemoto.
Mahalo to everyone who wanted to help but couldn't rearrange their schedules. All expressions of concern meant the world to us!
We know that some of you are wondering: "If they keep getting flooded, why do they stay there?" That IS the question of the moment, the question we will be pondering and discussing as we move forward. Relocating seems a daunting proposition. But remaining here--without protection against future flooding--is unacceptable. Trust that we will be working in TAG's best interest.
One way or another, TAG will go on. We always have--improbable as that seems--for a theatre that stages the shows we do, in a 60 seat house. As we move forward, we will keep in touch with our audience and patrons via email, blog, and website.
Eric Nemoto, President, and the TAG Board of Directors
