HONOLULU (December 30, 2016)— Manoa Valley Theatre continues its 2016-17 season, ringing in the New Year with a contemporary comedy by Sarah Ruhl from the 2014 Off-Broadway season. This is a hilarious story where art imitates life and life imitates art. When two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama, they quickly lose touch with reality as the story onstage follows them offstage. Romantic comedy and backstage farce are whipped together in this lively comedy about what happens when lovers share a stage kiss—or when actors share a real one. This is a Hawaii premiere.

“A Kiss isn’t just a kiss. After seeing this one, you may never look at another one on stage or screen the same way again.” – San Francisco Chronicle

Stage Kiss doesn’t end until it touches the heart. The fantasy world of theater, [Ruhl] suggests, may not be real. But it sure can make you happy.” – San Francisco Examiner
